Message: Jesus is calling for the healing of the world
Matthew 4:12-23 1 Corinthians 1:10-18
Jesus’ call to his first disciples interrupts all they believe to be routine and predictable about their lives. Jesus’ call comes as his response to the real dangers he faces, made explicit in the arrest of John the Baptist. To those who face challenges, God is Sanctuary. To those caught up in divisions and rivalries, God is Unity through the cross. Jesus invites all people to follow him in proclaiming the nearness and goodness of God’s hoped for kingdom.
